State GOP Chairman on Congressman's Retirement Announcement

Posted:
The announcement by Congressman Chris Gibson that this will be his final term in congress and that he could be a candidate for statewide office in 2018 has captured the attention of state republican power brokers.

State GOP Chairman Ed Cox says he has spoken to Gibson about statewide plans in 2018. He says it's too early to talk about a gubernatorial run but praises Gibson's decision to term-limit himself in congress, his war record, and his desire to build the party statewide for 2018.

"I've spoken to him and he wants to help build the party so it can better serve the people of New York State. He's thinking about running for a statewide office. He would be well qualified for more than one office," said Ed Cox, Chairman of the New York State GOP.

Gibson represents New York's 19th District which includes Sullivan, Ulster, Delaware, Otsego, Schoharie, Greene and Columbia counties and parts of Montgomery, Rensselaer and Dutchess counties.
