SUNY Broome To Host 2nd Annual Color Run

Posted:
A burst of color and a boost to a local organization helping those with mental health issues. The 2nd Annual Color Run is set for SUNY Broome.

"Known as the happiest 5K on the planet," said SUNY Broome President Kevin Drum.

1,800 people have already bought their tickets to run through a rainbow of colors on April 26th. And for the second straight year the proceeds from the Color Run will go the Mental Health Association of the Southern Tier.

"We believe in seeing all of the colors. There are people that don't everyday see you know their world is grey, their world is bleek and this is just a way that we hope that people realize that you can get our with people that you love and that you can do something that you love."

Last year the run was sold out with more than 5,500 participants raising tens of thousands of dollars. This year there's color with a twist ....or a little sparkle.

Anyone can participate and officials are saying its not about competition. You don't even have to run.
"Close to 50 percent of the color runners this is their actual first 5K event. So this is a way for individuals to celebrate their capstone in the healthy living accomplishments," said Executive Director at MHAST Keith Leahey.

"There was nothing better than looking over across the campus and seeing a sea of 5,500 people dressed in white. And I worked at the finish line and let me tell you the joy coming across that line was enough to just melt anyones heart it was just remarkable," said Anne Weid, MHAST assoc. director.
