Another blow for Lockheed's VH-71 Presidential Helicopter Program.
The aerospace company in Owego received a stop work order from the Pentagon on Friday--ordering that all work be halted immediately on the program.
The order confirms and formalizes the decision made recently by Defense Secretary Robert Gates.
Lockheed Spokesperson Thomas Greer tells us the stop work order is just another step toward the 225 layoffs that the company plans to announce in the middle of this month.
Fox 40 News asked if it could also mean other layoffs are closer now.
"We can expect a significant reduction in force, that's right. Hundreds more. I don't want to qualify it at this point, but it would be a significant number," said Lockheed's Spokesperson Thomas Greer.
Lockheed has indicated that a total 700 to 800 jobs are involved in the helicopter project--all appear to be at risk.
