B-Mets celebrate in style with mega win over Akron

BINGHAMTON, NY – The Binghamton Mets pounded out 17 hits en route to a 12-3 victory over the Akron RubberDucks on Friday night at NYSEG Stadium. Dilson Herrera went 3-for-3 with a two runs scored and four RBI. Darrell Ceciliani put up a 3-for-5 performance and drove in three runs. He extended his hitting streak to a season-long ten games in the process.

Despite the blowout, Akron was the first to cross the plate. In the top of the first inning, Jaime Pedroza hit a ground-rule double off of Tyler Pill. Tim Fedroff then walked to put two on for Anthony Gallas. He laced an RBI single for the first run of the game. Pill got the next two batters out, but surrendered a single to Alex Lavisky to put the RubberDucks on top, 2-0.

The lead was short lived, though. Herrera walked and Brian Burgamy singled to put two on for Jayce Boyd against Nick Maronde. The lefty gave up a three-run home run to put the home team on top, 3-2.

Binghamton added to that total in the second. Juan Centeno and Wilfredo Tovar hit back-to-back one-out singles. Two batters later, Herrera doubled to score both runners and extend the lead to 5-2.

The offense picked up again in the fourth. Tovar singled and came around to score on a Brandon Nimmo triple. Herrera skied a fly ball to center field that brought Nimmo across the plate for the 7-2 advantage.

Jordan Cooper came on in relief in the fifth, but the offense didn’t stop. Boyd walked to start the frame. Ceciliani blasted a two-run home run over the right-field wall to make it a 9-2 ball game.

Cooper’s troubles continued in the sixth. He gave up a lead-off single to Tovar and walked Nimmo. Herrera smacked his second two bagger of the night to score one and put runners on second and third with nobody out. Following a walk to Boyd, the bases were loaded for Ceciliani. He singled to right field to score a runner. T.J. Rivera then hit a sacrifice fly to center field to plate the third run of the frame and put the B-Mets in front, 12-2.

The RubberDucks got one run back in the second against Adam Kolarek. Lavisky led off with a double. With two outs, Ronny Rodriguez hit a double of his own to plate the runner and cut the deficit to 12-3.

Pill (9-5) went five innings and struck out seven batters. Kolarek allowed one run in two frames. Chase Huchingson and John Velasquez each tallied a perfect inning to close out the game.

The B-Mets (79-52) and RubberDucks play game two of this three-game set on Saturday at 7:05. RHP Greg Peavey goes for Binghamton, while RHP Duke von Schamann toes the rubber for Akron. The Horizons Federal Credit Union Pregame Show, starting at 6:50 PM, can be heard on News Radio 1290 WNBF and on the Binghamton Mets Baseball Network via the TuneIn App.
