The trash talk and hype surrounding Endicott native Jon "Bones" Jones's next fight against Daniel Cormier has every fan waiting for the bout. The two even came to blows in a press conference last week. But just after 6:00 Tuesday evening, news broke that the hometown hero and defending champ is unable to fight. Jones has suffered a sprained ankle and a torn meniscus that will keep him from entering the octagon on September 27.
Cormier has issued his fair share of verbal shots to the champ, and vice versa, but today the challenger issued this statement:
"It's very disappointing. I started to train very hard. It's a little discouraging, but now I have time to get completely healthy. I don't know how hurt Jon is but we have to remember that I took this fight with a pre-existing injury. I could have fought through it, I just wish he would have done the same."
The fight, which was the main event of UFC 178 will now be moved to January 3rd's UFC 182.
