Owego Company Rises from the Ashes

(Source: Fox 40 Staff)

A lumber mill in Owego is beginning to rise from the ashes after tragedy struck 6 months ago.

A sawmill fire destroyed much of the business in February of this year.
Wagner Lumber Mill celebrated the beginning of it's rebuild with a ground breaking ceremony at it's facility on Gaskill Road in Owego. The owners of the mill say that rebounding from this fire will not only help them recover, but also to grow the business even further.

"It's a big event. I get the chance to build the sawmill of my dreams. So 6 months ago it was burnt down, we started construction 6 months later which is this building and the main mill building, What we are putting up now will take four months I say and then we get to install the machines. We are installing what we consider the best machine available"- said Les Wagner, President of Wagner Lumber.

The lumber mill has been operational since 1976, and employs over 250 people. Between and 10 and 20 more positions will be created once the rebuild is complete.
