Owego Mayor's Reaction To Police Department Vacancies

Will there be or not be extra coverage from the Tioga County Sheriff's Office in the Village of Owego.

That's the question after a public safety committee meeting Tuesday afternoon.  The Village Board agreed to leave two vacant positions in the Owego Police Department Monday night. Prior to Monday night's vote Tioga County Sheriff Gary Howard said his department would increase  patrolling in the village. But Owego Mayor Kevin Millar said Tuesday he is not aware of any such plan.

"As far as I know I don't think it means anything at present. As far as I know there's no agreement of any kind or even any discussion on the table about any change in Tioga County Sheriff's operations in the village."said Mayor Kevin Millar.

Instead Millar says the board's decision means utilizing the part-time officers more and increased overtime for full-time officers.
