Peavey pitches B-Mets to series tying win

BINGHAMTON, NY – The Binghamton Mets used a strong start from Greg Peavey to top the Trenton Thunder, 6-1, on Friday night at Arm & Hammer Park. The righty tossed eight innings, gave up one run and struck out seven batters. Darrell Ceciliani tallied two RBI, scored a run and stole two bases in the win.

After each team traded zeroes threw three, Binghamton got on the board in the fourth against Dan Camarena. Brian Burgamy smacked a double down the left-field line to start the frame. He moved to third base on a Dustin Lawley single to right. T.J. Rivera came through with an RBI single to plate Burgamy for the first run of the game. After Travis Taijeron reached on an error by the first baseman Francisco Arcia, Darrell Ceciliani hit a sacrifice fly to right field that brought home Lawley to make the score 2-0.

Trenton came back with a run of their own in the bottom of the frame against Greg Peavey. Jake Cave singled to put the lead off man on. He moved to second on a ground out and third on a wild pitch. Peter O’Brien hit into a ground out to short, but Cave scored on the play to cut the lead to 2-1.

The B-Mets got that run back in sixth. With two outs, Jayce Boyd launched a pitch more than 400 feet to straight away center field to extend the lead back to two runs at 3-1.

That advantage was extended in the seventh. Ceciliani singled against Nick Rumbelow to start things off and stole second base. After Brandon Nimmo walked, he and Ceciliani each moved up a bag on a double steal. Dilson Herrera struck out at a pitch in the dirt and reached safely on the wild pitch. Both runners advanced on the play. Ceciliani crossed the plate, while Nimmo made it to third and scored on an error by the third baseman, Dan Fiorto, to make the score 5-1

The B-Mets added one more run in the eighth against Nick Goody. Rivera singled with one out and moved to second on a Boyd walk. Jairo Heredia came in and after strikeout gave up a bloop single to Ceciliani to make the Binghamton lead 6-1.

That was more than enough for Peavey (8-1) who won his second straight outing against Trenton. Camarena (0-4) tossed six innings and allowed three runs (two earned) and struck out five. Jon Velasquez struck out the side in a scoreless ninth to close out the victory.

The B-Mets (62-43) plays game three of their four-game set on Saturday at 7:05 PM. RHP Gabriel Ynoa takes the hill for the B-Mets opposite RHP Jaron Long for the Thunder.
