Tractor Trailer Crashes Into Restaurant In Downtown Ithaca

One person is dead and several others hurt after a tractor trailer crashes into Simeon's restaurant in downtown Ithaca.

Authorities say first responders were called to the scene at the  at corner of East State and Aurora Streets around 4:10 Friday afternoon.  The tractor trailer was carrying several cars inside its trailer at the time.  Officials say the driver of the tractor trailer did suffer scrapes and bruises and the others who were hurt suffered non life threatening injuries.  Authorities say the truck was at least 50  to 60 feet inside the restaurant  and the building of course suffered severe structural damage and the area has been blocked off. An eyewitness described the scene as chaotic.

Everyone was trying to figure out what to do, no one knew what to do.  Someone said I should start directing traffic so it doesn't come down this way. So I went and did that." said Neil Olie, Eyewitness

A press conference is scheduled for Saturday 10 a.m. and we will have more information on that crash on our 10 p.m.  Newscast
