Lockheed Martin in Owego is cutting positions in the company's janitorial and cafeteria operations.
This as the company is transitioning to hiring vendors to provide these services. Various factors such as will someone retire or be hired by a vendor Lockheed is contracting with come into play to know exactly how many of the 40 workers affected by the transition will ultimately lose their jobs.
The company says other sites across the corporation that have made similar transitions have resulted in a large number of impacted employees being offered and accepting positions with the respective vendors.
