Memorial Headstones For National Guard and Reserves

Members of the National Guard and Reserve units will now be able to receive the same honors as those who actively served in the military.

Congressman Richard Hanna has passed a bill called the GUARD Remembrance Act. This will allow National Guard members and those in the Reserve who have served at least 6 years to receive a memorial headstone when they pass away. Those headstones are currently reserved for those who served in active duty.

Hanna says men and women in the national guard or reserves may never be called on--but that they live in a constant state of readiness.

"When you think about the anxiety that they go through knowing that any moment that the phone could ring for local natural disaster or any number of things like 9/11, or they could be deployed. So that's no small thing to remember," said Hanna.

The GUARD Remembrance Act is part of the National Defense Authorization Act, and is a zero-cost measure to taxpayers and the government.
