Owego Mayor Expects Most Changes in Firefighter Safety Rules to Be Approved

--An update on the battle between Owego's volunteer firefighters and the Village.
Owego Mayor Kevin Millar tells Fox 40 News that he anticipates "about 90 percent" of the proposed changes to firefighter training, and safety proceedures will be passed at the next village board meeting on June 16th.
This follows the resignations of what the mayor says were 40 firefighters--late last week.
Many of them also turned in their uniforms.
The volunteers are upset by the board's delayed approval of changes in the firefighter's manual which they consider necessary to their safety.
Millar says many of the changes --proposed after last year's death of firefighter Matthew Porcari, have already been made.
Millar says the remaining part of the fire department is adequate to handle most situations--and that mutual aid would be called in if a large fire were to take place.
