Local Students Travel to World Finals for Odyssey of the Mind

Odyssey of the Mind is taking students from Vestal and Windsor halfway across the country.

A team from Vestal Middle School and one from Windsor High School are on their way to Iowa for the world finals of the Odyssey of the Mind Tournament.

The competition requires teams to come up with skits to creatively solve problems.

Five of the seven members of the Vestal team and one from the Windsor team are making their second trip to worlds.

"Competing, meeting other people, pin trading, that's the big thing. You get pins at Regionals, States, and you can buy them for Worlds. People love to trade with other countries and states," said Theresa Deskur, Vestal Middle School 8th-Grade Student.

"I've been doing this for a lot of years. Personally I've been doing this for seven years and this is my first time going to Worlds so it's quite exciting," said Windsor High School 10th-Grade Student Matthew Colosi.

The teams are currently on a 20-hour bus ride to Iowa. Opening ceremonies are Wednesday night and the competition begins on Thursday.
