Senators resign Patrick Mullen

OTTAWA, ONTARIO The Ottawa Senators announced today that the club has re-signed defenceman Patrick Mullen to a one-year, two-way contract.

Mullen, who turned 28 earlier this month, was acquired by Ottawa from Vancouver in exchange for forward Jeff Costello on March 4. Upon assignment to Binghamton (AHL), the Pittsburgh native recorded 12 points (one goal, 11 assists) and 12 penalty minutes over 20 contests with the B-Sens. He earned two assists while appearing in each of the club's four post-season games against Wilkes-Barre/Scranton.

Prior to being acquired by the Senators, Mullen had appeared in 46 games with Vancouver's American Hockey League affiliate, the Utica Comets, registering 20 points (seven goals, 13 assists) and 23 penalty minutes. His 20 points saw him lead Comets defencemen in scoring at the time of the trade.

Undrafted, Mullen was originally signed by the Los Angeles Kings as a free agent on April 3, 2009, following a four-season collegiate career with the University of Denver (WCHA). He has since recorded 102 points (28 goals, 75 assists) and 128 penalty minutes over 248 career AHL games with the Manchester Monarchs, Chicago Wolves, Utica and Binghamton .
