Owego honors Fallen Firefighters

The second annual Owego Fallen Firefighters Memorial Tournament is set for June 7th.

The tournament was put together to honor Owego firefighter Matt Porcari and others. Matt Porcari died while fighting a fire in Newark Valley in January of 2013. The event will once again be at The Links at Hiawatha Landing.

Last year's tournament raised more than $17,000 dollars. Funds go toward scholarships for graduating students from Owego Free Academy planning to enter the emergency field, and a new state-of-the-art training facility.

"So that we can train with the latest things. Not only fire departments but the training facility would be able to be for other emergency groups, could be police, emergency services for not only Tioga County but for the surrounding area," said Co-Chair of the Tournament John Loftus.

Teams and sponsors can register through the website owegofiregolf.com
