Binghamton Softball falls in elimination game to Albany at America East Tournament 5-2

STONY BROOK, N.Y. – Marlin Salano drilled a three-run home run, leading Albany (31-11) to a 5-2 win over Binghamton (22-25) in an America East Softball Tournament elimination game on Saturday afternoon at University Field. With the defeat, the Bearcats finish third in the America East Tournament for the second year in a row.

Salano’s blast capped a five-run top of the third inning that put the Great Danes up 5-0. Earlier in the frame, Kelly Costello doubled home a run and later scored on a fielder’s choice.

Freshman third baseman Crysti Eichner got the Bearcats on the board with a solo home run in the bottom of the fourth inning. Two innings later, senior second baseman Jessica Bump led off with a home run, trimming the deficit to 5-2.

MacKenize Thompson scattered two runs on four hits through six innings to improve her record to 10-2. Brittany MacFawn came on in relief in the bottom of the seventh inning and recorded her fourth save of the season. The loss was tagged to Demi Laney, whose record fell to 14-12.
