SUNY Broome To Offer At Home Education

Officials at SUNY Broome will roll out a program that may eventually allow you to get a degree from the school without leaving home...

The school is developing what's called a MOOC - or massive open on-line course - for home health aides and personal care aides. The MOOC should be ready within a year. It won't be for college credit but will be used for workforce development to help people get the skills they need for that field.

"It'll fit into and lead them to the training they would get traditionally. We are hoping in the future once we establish this and it becomes something that's more established that it will eventually provide a more immediate pathway to credit and a credential," said Dr. Andrea Wade, Associate Vice President and Dean of SUNY Broome.

SUNY Broome is developing the MOOC thanks to a $20,000 state grant. The school will measure the success of the program based on how many people use it and how many of them go on to pursue a degree or certification in the field.
