Astorino Pushes Fracking in Vestal as Job Creator

In an area still struggling to rebuild its economy, New York  Republican gubernatorial  candidate Rob Astorino made a trip to the Southern Tier today, making it a point to support fracking.

Astorino visited the Vestal Asphalt Plant. While there Astorino continued to say what he's said before: --that natural gas extraction will help grow the economy in New York and create much needed jobs.

"Companies like this, which should have 80 to 100 more workers employed here if we had natural gas exploration, they will thrive, they will succeed. Families will benefit," said  Astorino.

"I would say it would be an immediate up-tick of employment, economy, and growth generally," said Neil Guiles, owner of Vestal Asphalt.

"Governor Cuomo should not take it as pressure. We are going to hold him to his word that he's going to make the decision based on science and based on facts and based on the actual affects of this harmful industrial process," said Issac Silberman-Gorn of Citizen Action.

Fracking has long been a political hot potato.

Pro-fracking groups have been highly critical of what they see as the Cuomo administration's failure to act more quickly in making a decision to frack, or not to frack.
