B-Sens season ends in 5-1 loss

BINGHAMTON, NY – The Binghamton Senators fell 5-1 in Game 4 of its Eastern Conference Quarterfinal matchup against the Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins, giving the Penguins the 3-1 series win.  Wilkes-Barre/Scranton jumped out to a 4-0 lead during the second period and Binghamton never was able to recover.

Chuck Kobasew opened the scoring against the B-Sens on the power play 11:38 into the opening period.  The referees needed to review the film but ultimately came to the conclusion the Kobasew’s wrister beat Andrew Hammond up high to give the hosts the 1-0 lead.  The Penguins held the one-goal advantage heading into the game’s first intermission with Peter Mannino stopping all 13 Binghamton shots faced in the opening 20 minutes of play.

Brian Dumoulin extended the Penguins lead to 2-0 just 1:19 into the 2nd period on another power-play goal before Dominik Uher notched his first goal of the playoffs to push the score to 3-0 just nine minutes into the middle frame.

Andrew Ebbett extended Wilkes-Barre/Scranton’s lead to four when he managed to put the puck past Hammond with less than three minutes remaining in the period.

Binghamton came out in the third with a lot of pressure and managed to beat Mannino just seconds into a power-play opportunity making the score 4-1.  However, Mannino stifled all of Binghamton ’s chances from there on out.

Harry Zolnierczyk added an empty-net goal with just over two minutes remaining, advancing the Penguins to the Eastern Conference Semi-finals.

Hammond stopped 19 of 23 shots faced while Mannino shined, stopping 26 of 27 to earn his third victory of the postseason.  Shane Prince scored Binghamton ’s lone goal while Andrew Ebbett lead the Penguins with a goal and two assists.  Dumoulin and Kobasew added a goal and an assist to guide Wilkes-Barre past Binghamton for the second straight year to open the Calder Cup Playoffs.
