Expert Tells Students Wage and Benefits Issues Will Soon Affect Them
5/1/2014 (Updated 11:02:01 PM)On Thursday, students at SUNY Broome learned more about the minimum wage, and the history of the labor movement:
Kim Bobo travels the country explaining what she says are the positive effects of raising wages and increasing benefits for workers.
She says it's crucial for high school and college students to have that information, since they'll soon be entering the workforce.
"They are going to learn very quickly that there are many jobs that don't pay decent wages, that don't have benefits,. and that they need to be pushing for themselves, but also how do we create an economy that serves everybody?" said Kim Bobo, executive director of Interfaith Worker Justice.
Bobo says the first step to doing this is raising the minimum wage to at least $10.10 an hour.
