Hope Remains After Fire Destroys Family Business
5/1/2014 (Updated 7:58:00 PM)A day after flames tore through the Ellis Brother's furniture store on Water Street in downtown Binghamton owners are already working on getting back on their feet.
The primary storefront, on Washington street, was open for business Thursday sustaining minor smoke damage from Wednesday's fire.
The family says they're overwhelmed with the outpour of support from the community, other downtown business owners, and even their competitors.
They say firefighters did their best fighting the blaze Wednesday.
"We were very pleased with the outcome that no one was hurt. And obviously the building, it took some substantial damage. But they pretty much saved the building. We do feel there is something to work with," said Charles Ellis, Vice President of Ellis Bros. Furniture.
The building affected by the fire is currently being assessed and owners plan to reopen that building as soon as it's repaired. Until then the contemporary furniture will be consolidated into the Washington Street location.
