Binghamton Softball falls to Maine 3-2 in 10 innings

ORONO, Maine – EmJ Fogel doubled home the winning run in the bottom of the 10th inning, giving Maine (17-17, 8-9 AE) a 3-2 win over Binghamton (20-21, 9-5 AE) in an America East softball game on Sunday afternoon at Kessock Field.

With the win, the Black Bears take two out of three games in the weekend series. The game was also the longest the Bearcats have played in since March 27, 2010, when they lost 5-3 at Albany.

Fogel, who drove in all three Maine runs, smacked her game-winning double into left field with two outs. Kristen Koslosky, who scored twice during the game, came home with the winning run.

Nearly three hours earlier, the two teams traded runs in the first inning. Senior second baseman Jessica Bump doubled home sophomore outfielder Sydney Harbaugh in the top of the frame.  Fogel responded by tripling home Koslosky to tie the game at 1-1.

Harbaugh put the Bearcats ahead 2-1 when she scored on a sacrifice fly in the top of the third inning. Felicia Lennon, however, tied the game in the bottom of the sixth inning when she scored on a groundout.
Hannah Hill won for the second time in the series, pitching the last eight innings to improve to 8-4. Senior pitcher Demi Laney, meanwhile, went the full game but the loss dropped her record to 13-9.

Harbaugh went 2-for-4 to finish the weekend series with a team-high .444 batting average. She scored five of the Bearcats’ six runs. Also hitting .444 during the weekend was junior shortstop Caytlin Friis.
Bump, who finished the game 3-for-4, hit .400 (4-for-10) during the series.

Up next for Binghamton is a home doubleheader against Cornell on Wednesday starting at 3:30 p.m.
