With a little bit of sun peaking through today, hundreds of runners took to the Vestal Rail Trail today to run for a good cause.
Runners laced up their sneakers and took their mark for the annual "Run for your Heart" 5K race to support the American Heart Association's Heart Walk which takes place next week.
The organization had a goal of raising 250 thousand dollars and had raised nearly 135 thousand before the race even started. Participants say knowing the money goes towards an cause like this one gives them a little more motivation to run fast.
"We hear a lot of people talk about how important heart disease and strokes are to them and really wanting to come out to raise money for the mission to fight against heart disease and get involved," said Gina Chapman, Director of the American Heart Association.
The 25th annual Heart Walk will take place Saturday May 3rd at Binghamton University.
