Thomas earns AEast Player of the Week Honors

VESTAL, N.Y. - Binghamton junior outfielder Jake Thomas has been named America East Player of the Week, the conference announced on Monday. After a huge week at the plate, Thomas earned the honor for the second time in the last three weeks.

He hit .615 (8-for-13) with two home runs and eight RBI in four games for the Bearcats, who went 3-1 during the week. Thomas, who tied for second in the nation last spring in on-base percentage (.517), had a gaudy on-base mark of .722 for the week.

The highlight came in Sunday’s rubber game against Maine, when Thomas belted a grand slam, added a two-run shot and racked up a career-high six RBI to carry BU past the Black Bears, 8-2. It was the second time in two weeks he’s hit two home runs in a game. He had hits in all four games during the week, including three multi-hit performances.

Thomas continues to lead the America East in home runs (6) and slugging (.528) and ranks second in RBI (25) and on-base percentage (.431). His home runs per game (0.20) ranks 45th in the nation.

In his last 11 games, Thomas is hitting .417 with 13 RBI. He has a team-best six multi-RBI games and 10 multi-hit games this spring.
Binghamton begins its string of back-to-back road non-conference games with a Tuesday tilt at Cornell.
