The Jewish Community Center was doing its part by getting kids interested in reading at a young age.
Friday at the JCC they celebrated their sixth annual Literacy Day which was aimed for kids 18 months to five years old.
The theme was science with demonstrations and exhibits from the Roberson Museum, and "Ssid the Science Kid" who is from animated television.
"To find a fun way to celebrate reading and get kids excited about books. The idea is that the book they read today comes to life. and they can go into the auditorium and visit the ocean and visit the forest. So it's about getting kids really excited about reading," said director of the Childhood Center, Marlene Patrick.
Kids also got to dress up as their favorite book character.
