Funding will Keep Stream Gauges Operating
4/11/2014 (Updated 11:25:36 PM)Long-term federal funding for nine high-priority stream gauges, including six in the Southern Tier, has been secured:
That will stave off their planned closure on October 1st.
This, according to the offices of senators Charles Schumer and Kirsten Gillibrand, and Congressman Richard Hanna.
The gauges include one on Owego creek in Owego, and five on the Susquehanna river in Unadilla, Bainbridge, Windsor, Binghamton, and Owego.
These devices predict when floodwaters will crest to help plan for evacuations and flood responses.
