Nightclub 17 East Locked Down
4/11/2014 (Updated 11:22:05 PM)Binghamton's mayor is taking steps to close a night club at the center of a major drug and gang investigation...
The city has filed a petition as a first step in the lockdown process to close the 17 East Club on Clinton Street.
That venue was one of nine locations searched as part of of a multi-agency drug ring investigation that lead to the arrest of 14 alleged gang members on march 26 in Binghamton and New York City.
The nightclub was a key location used for illegal gambling and drug trafficking activities, and the site of multiple shootings, according to police.
"The raid that took place approximately two weeks ago was one of nine locations. There was a haven for drug activity, shootings, gang members, and a variety of other quality of life nuisance disturbances," said Mayor Rich David.
As a result of this petition, a preliminary hearing will be set to determine whether the property can be immediately closed, pending a full trial.
