Senate Bill Would Require DWI Checks in Serious Accidents
3/25/2014 (Updated 10:53:30 PM)The New York Senate is trying to give law enforcers another tool to detect and properly punish drunk drivers:
It has passed a bill that would require chemical tests to be performed on a driver when there is an accident involving serious personal injury or death, when it is reasonably believed that the driver was under the influence.
Right now, such tests are at the discretion of the police.
And what's more, it would allow the accident’s occurrence itself, to be sufficient for establishing reasonable cause.
The bill now goes on to the Assembly.
