Big 3rd period propels B-Sens to divisional win

NORFOLK, V.A.  Binghamton prevailed 5-2 on the road thanks to three third period goals that broke open a 2-2 game after 40 minutes of play.  Shane Prince scored the go-ahead goal 2:50 into the final frame to keep Binghamton atop the East Division with their 37th win on the year.  Scott Greenham earned the victory in net in just his second appearance in net for Binghamton this year stopping 24 of 26 shots faced.

Norfolk opened the scoring 7:02 into the first period when Chris Wagner recorded his 11th goal of the year.  Max Friberg collected a loose puck in the neutral zone and sent it up ice to Kevin Gagne.  Gagne found a charging Wagner on the right wing who one-timed the puck past Greenham to give the Admirals the 1-0 lead.

Mark Borowiecki tied the game at 1-1 at the 15:16 mark of the opening frame off assists from Patrick Mullen and Derek Grant.  With Binghamton holding possession in Norfolk s zone Grant cycled the puck to the top of the right point to Mullen who dished a pass to the right point where Borowiecki buried his second marker of the year.
Greenham stopped 13 of 14 shots in the first 20 minutes of play while John Gibson turned aside six of seven Binghamton chances.
Devante Smith-Pelly broke the 1-1 tie 11:40 into the second period on a short-handed goal.

Binghamton looked to be heading into the final intermission trailing by one before David Dziurzynski tipped home a Fredrik Claesson slap shot with 52 seconds remaining to send the teams to the locker room deadlocked at 2-2.

The B-Sens grabbed their first lead of the night less than three minutes into the third on a power-play goal from Prince.  Cole Schneider scored his 19th marker of the season at the 16:33 spot of the period to extend the lead to 4-2 before Stephane Da Costa added an empty-netter with just over a minute remaining to push the final score to 5-2.

Greenham improved to 2-0-0 for Binghamton with his 24 save performance while Gibson dropped to 20-15-4.  Defensemen Mullen and Grant both finished with two assists for the B-Sens.
Binghamton faces off against the Admirals tomorrow night at 7:15p.m. for the sixth time in their eight-game season series.
