Southern Tier Scholastic Science Fair
3/15/2014 (Updated 10:47:50 PM)Hundreds of local students who attended this year's Southern Tier Scholastic Science Fair at SUNY Broome got a rare, and high flying surprise today.
Along with a hands on workshop about flight engineering, SUNY Broome's Alumni Field acted as the landing pad for Lockheed Martin's K-Max helicopter. Students learned through hands on activities from SUNY Broome professors and other area professionals.
"I think it's a great day for them. We have a lot of kids who come back year after year. It's a chance for them to get to interact with local professionals. Get excited about science and they always have a fun day doing the science activities," said Jen Musa, Professor of Biology at SUNY Broome.
Organizers and educators say they hope this type of event helps to foster the love of science in young people, and help them get a jump start on their future.
