Senator Tom Libous on Budget Negotiations
3/14/2014 (Updated 10:51:00 PM)The New York Senate has worked out a budget one that senate leaders say balances the budget without raising property taxes, increases school aid and provides property tax relief and addresses how to fund a property tax cap freeze.
At a Commerce Chenango luncheon Friday in Greene, State Senator Tom Libous says what remains to be done, is to get the senate, the assembly, and the governor on the same page.
"We all have our own property tax freeze. The governor has his, the senate now has one and the assembly. We want to get an early on time budget so we're going to make sure that we work hard the next two weeks to do that. It would be four budgets in a row. It sends a very positive signal to all of the bond raters and certainly the local government," said Senator Tom Libous.
The senate's version of the budget calls for a permanent tax cap freeze would provide 1.4 billion in additional tax relief over the next two years, and require local governments to submit efficiency plans that include consolidations and shared services.
