Maple Syrup Predictions on Upcoming Production
3/6/2014 (Updated 6:51:33 PM)Will the cold winter put a chill in maple syrup production?
The land has been tapped for maple syrup for more than one hundred years and through six generations at the Sugar Creek Maple Farm.
Maple farmer Mike Blachek says the level of production is still up in the air.
Blachek says that this year could still be a great year, it's just starting a little later.
"I'm sure I'll be down here almost 24 hours a day once the season starts. All your maple producers work like crazy because it's not like other kinds of farming. Our crop comes in a very fine window and it's very random I guess would be the right word when it comes to the weather," said maple farmer Mike Blaschek.
Sugar Creek Maple Farm has a mile of tap lines set up on its property. This is the first year Blaschek used vacuum technology to help better retrieve sap from the trees.
