As the Bearcats Men's and Women's basketball teams begin their preparations for the America East Tournament, they hope that the old sports cliche "it's tough to beat a team three times in a season" proves to be true. The men play Hartford on Saturday at around 8:30 and the women play Albany on Friday at 6:00. Both games are in Albany's SEFCU Arena.
The Bearcat men lost both regular season meetings to Hartford in heartbreaking fashion. On January 23, the Hawks scored the game-winning basket with just seconds left in the game, and Marlon Beck had a chance to win the game with a running three point shot that bounced off the rim as time expired. Just last week, the Bearcats needed another last second shot, but this one went to Yosef Yacob and game as a game-tying three pointer in regulation to force overtime. But, Tommy Dempsey said his team isn't the deepest at the moment and in overtime, fatigue was a definite factor in the loss.
For the women, they lost both games to the conference number one seeded Albany Great Danes in decisive outcomes. The first matchup was a 66-36 loss at the Events Center. The second time around was a tougher contest for the Bearcats in Albany in an 86-35 defeat. But, the ladies are ready to play the spoiler.
