Two Pennsylvania Men Arrested Charged with Illegal Dumping

Two Pennsylvania men and their business are charged with illegal dumping of and storage of sewage sludge containing human waste.

Authorities say it was dumped on a farm property in Lenox Township and at Hallstead Sanitary Services, in Hallstead.

52-year-old David Birtch of Route 11 Hallstead, and 54-year-old Jennings Birtch of Route 11, New Milford allegedly dumped sewage sludge into an on-site manure pit at Fallon Farm in Lenox Township.

In addition, septic wasted was allegedly stored and disposed of illegally at Hallstead Sanitary Service on Route 11 in Hallstead.

Officials say the septic waste dumped onto the Hallstead property seeped into Salt Lick Creek.

A water sample from the creek showed elevated levels of e-coli, according to the state attorney general's office.
