Policare honored as winningest coach in Section IV

One man has been the face of Vestal Golden Bears Wrestling.  Anthony Policare has been the head wrestling coach at Vestal for the past 27 years.  He's strung together 27 consecutive winning seasons, has coached 21 individual Section IV Champions and 15 NYS Place Finishers.  He's won 10 STAC Division I Titles, 4 STAC Metro Titles, and the 2005 Section IV Title.  Not to mention his latest accomplishment of 441 career wins, breaking the previous Section IV record of 435.  That win total not only puts him on top of the Section, but places him in the top five all time for New York State.

His team, son, and community honored him Tuesday night with pictures and a plaque commemorating the achievement.  Even Vestal Town Supervisor John Schaeffer attended the event.  Schaeffer's sons all wrestled at Vestal for Policare.  Schaeffer also read a proclamation declaring Wednesday, February 26, 2014 to be Anthony Policare, Jr. Day in the Town of Vestal.

Policare says having the record is a nice honor, but takes very little credit for it, saying that he's basically just along for the ride.
