Yacob earns 2nd Conf. Rookie of the Week Award

VESTAL, N.Y. - Binghamton mens basketball freshman guard Yosef Yacob has been named the America East Rookie of the Week, the conference announced on Monday. Its the second honor this season for Yacob and the seventh rookie selection overall for the Bearcats, who have had a league-record four different winners.

Yacob averaged 16.0 points and 3.0 assists in two games last week, highlighted by a game-high 20 points in BUs 72-70 road win at UMBC on Saturday. Yacob netted 14 points in the first half as the Bearcats built a double-digit lead and then he made a crucial free throw with 20 seconds left to help provide the winning margin.
For the season, Yacob is averaging 11.3 points (second on team) and has scored in double figures 14 times, including 10 of the last 12 games. He was also selected as Rookie of the Week on January 13.

Binghamton has won three of its last four games to move to within a half-game of the No. 5 seed for the upcoming America East tournament. The Bearcats play at Hartford on Thursday before finishing the regular season with a home game against first-place Vermont on Sunday.
