Hundreds Gather in Bradford County to Rally for Fracking Royalties

Some Pennsylvania landowners aren't happy with the gas companies they lease their land to.

Friday hundreds of them gathered in front of the court house in Bradford County asking for a bill to be passed.

The landowners say their royalty payments have been too low. House Bill 184 will clarify a state law that was overturned in 2010 which requires royalty payments be a minimum of 12.5%.

"Retired people and working families signed those 12 and a half percent leases that were guaranteed by the state and promised by the gas industry. They were compromised by a PA supreme court hearing and it's been terrible," Doug McLinko, Chair of the Bradford County Board of Commissioners.

"We need all the rally and more to get this bill through so that we can be sure we are being treated right by these gas companies who are multimillionaires to begin with," Shirley Bristol of West Burlington said.

Several other leaders spoke at the rally a statement of support from Governor Corbett was also read.

Supporters plan to campaign across the state to pass the bill.
