B-Sens pillaged and plundered by Pirates

BINGHAMTON, NY  The B-Sens stumbled 5-1 to Portland in their return to the Broome County Veterans Memorial Arena following a four-game road trip.  Chris Brown notched two goals while goaltender Mark Visentin stopped 22 of 23 shots faced to lead the Pirates to victory.  Andrew Hammond suffered his ninth loss of the year surrendering five goals on 14 shots faced.

Binghamtons lone goal of the evening came less than five minutes into the contest when Jim OBrien tallied his tenth of the year off a rebound from a Shane Prince shot.  Brown evened the score 1-1 just past the 15 minute mark of the period on his first goal of the night.  Portland took the lead for good just over two minutes later when Brown recorded his second goal of the night on the power play.  The Pirates carried a 2-1 advantage into the first intermission.

Brandon McMillan added to Portlands lead less than two minutes into the second period on another power play for his eighth goal of the season making it 3-1.  Brandon Gormley and Tobias Rieder added power-play goals of their own to close out the second period and give the Pirates a 5-1 lead heading into the final period of regulation.

Nathan Lawson entered the game to start the third period in relief of starter Hammond, but it was too little too late.  Lawson stopped all eight shots faced in the final frame, but Binghamton failed to mount a comeback giving the Pirates the 5-1 win.

Portland went 4-for-9 on the man advantage while the B-Sens came up empty in six opportunities.  Binghamton ended the night with 16 penalties for 54 minutes.
