Runners Come out to Support Rescue Mission

Over 150 runners bundled up  today in their brightest gear and headed to SUNY Broome to support the local Rescue Mission.

"It shows that a really generous, supportive community about the cause of the Rescue Mission in helping people change their life for the better," said Alan Thornton, Chief Executive Officer of the Rescue Mission.

Today's Freeze out 5K to End Homelessness was raising money to help the homeless across Broome County.

"Participants have been fundraising for the event and we expect to raise over $10,000 today," said Thornton.

All proceeds from today's event go to benefit Whitney's Place. It's a residence where men who have recently experienced homelessness can go for support.

"Homelessness is something that we all have to work towards preventing or correctly," said David Taggarg of Endicott, NY.

Runners were excited to raise awareness and money for the cause.

"It feels great to be a part of it and really hoping to stomp it out and get it out of the ball park," said Katelyn Dawson of Cortland.

"The homeless, especially with the cold days we've had, taken its toll on many of us, especially the homeless so the more we can do, the better," said Taggarg.

If you weren't able to make it out to the race today, but still want to support the Rescue Mission, you can go to their website at rmlifechanging.org.
