BBB Warns of Telephone Scam
1/30/2014 (Updated 10:51:00 PM)The Better Business Bureau is warning consumers to beware of scams from outfits pretending to be agencies of the federal government.
One such scam involves a phone call from a person pretending to be from the Federal Trade Commission, notifying victims that they won a sweepstakes or lottery, but had to pay taxes and fees before they could collect their winnings.
Tjhe scammers told victims that the fees were to be paid with Green Dot MoneyPak or Vanilla reloadable cards.
The best advice on such calls? Just hang up and report the incident to your local better business bureau, or the police.
