Fiala Supports Three Strike Law
1/24/2014 (Updated 10:50:06 PM)According to Department of Motor Vehicles Commissioner Barbara Fiala, New York State already has some of the toughest drinking and driving punishments in the nation.
She says that current research shows the young people are more vulnerable to distractions while driving because they may be less experienced than older drivers.
Fiala supports legislation to revoke a person's license after three D.W.I convictions.
She says it's a step in the right direction.
"People are being killed every single day with texting and driving and drinking and driving. And we feel strongly we need to do all we can do to deter that. And that's certainly the main focus of the three strikes and you're out," said Barbara Fiala, New York State DMV Commissioner.
Fiala says that texting is a big issue when it comes to distracted driving. She hopes that the three strikes law reinforces how important it is to drive safely.
