Local Olympic Coach Passes on this Year's Event
1/23/2014 (Updated 7:53:09 PM)An Endwell native who is one of the coaches of the U.S bobsled team is saying no to a chance to travel to the Olympics in Sochi, Russia.
Randy Will is a three-time Olympic bobsledder and also coached the U.S. team in 2002.
But this time around safety concerns will keep him stateside. He will split the Olympics between being in Utah, where he will be working for the U.S. Olympic Committee, and here at home.
"I am very nervous about Sochi. I'll be the first to admit it. I think the powers that be over there have everything handled. I know the U.S. team has got everything handled. They have a lot of safety concerns and they're fine. For me, I'm just not needed there. They've gone as far as we can go," said Will.
Will spent part of last year as coach of the Australian bobsled team. He commissioned students at Broome-Tioga BOCES to work on the Aussie sled.
They did good work. In a pre-olympic tournament at Lake Placid, the Australian team took home silver and bronze medals, it's best showing ever.
