Free Throw Contest in Norwich

Meet Nicole Jeffrey, a 12 year old girl who says she loves her family, friends, and basketball.

I had the privilege of meeting Nicole at the 2014 Knights of Columbus Free Throw  in Contest in Norwich, NY. Kids from the ages of 9 to 14 came out today, showing off their sharpshooting skills, and hoping to make it to next round. The whole event is, and has been, sponsored by the Knights of Columbus Organization and Members say that they love seeing so many kids come out and compete each year.

"One of the focuses of the Knights of Columbus is family and children. They sponsor several activities for children and the annual free throw contest is one of the biggest events. They're so many kids that love basketball and that love to play. So they started the free throw contest many years ago and its has taken off and grown from there.", said Dave Zieno, Member of Knights of Columbus

Nicole did end up winner her age group last year but this year she is better and wants to go farther in the contest.

Nicole's Father, also a member of the Knights of Columbus, says that she has always been competitive growing up with two older brothers and that this is third year that Nicole has entered the contest.

"I think it has to do with my Mother's side of the family. They've always been very athletic and I think it just came natural to her so she's be attracted to basketball, softball, and soccer.", said Bob Jeffrey, Nicole's Father

When the contest was all said an done, Nicole emerged victorious once again and will be advancing to the next round along with 5 other kids. When I asked Nicole how she felt, that competitive nature of her's shined, once again.

"It felt good but I think I could have done better. I was just nervous. Thank you Knights of Columbus for hosting this foul shooting contest..", said Nicole Jeffrey, 12 Year Old Group Contest

Although only a few kids were able to move on to the next round, including Nicole, everyone walked out of that gym a winner.
