Law Makers Show Support for Casino in Broome County

There was unanimous support from local law makers Thursday to bring a casino to Broome County.

With a state committee expected to award at least one casino license in the Southern Tier, the Broome County legislatures administrations committee voted to approve a resolution to support a casino in the county on Thursday.

Owners of the Johnson City resort vying for a casino bid say while they have a long way to go, this is a step in the right direction.

"We were very pleased with the outcome. It's unanimous support. It shows us that all the preliminary board members that were here are actually 100 percent in favor of it coming to Broome County," said Bill Walsh, Owner of Traditions at the Glen.

Along with Traditions, Vista Hospitality Group has announced they will compete for a license to build a 100 million dollar casino in Broome County in Binghamton.

This resolution will now be voted on by the full county legislature at their meeting on January 23.
