World War II Veteran, American Legion Leader Remembered

Calling hours were held Wednesday evening for a World War II veteran and long time American Legion leader.

Families and friends of Richard Pedro paid there last respects at the Estey, Munroe, and Fahey Funeral Home in Owego.  Pedro died Friday at the age of 87 after a battle with an illness.

He served in the Navy before he was honorably discharged in 1947. He worked at IBM and lead the Department of New for American Legion Post 401 in Owego.

"He always recognized, honored, supported, and respected the American Legion Auxiliary," said Ida King,

"No one would give him any guff. When you talked about Dick Pedro, you talked about God. That man made that much of a reputation with the American Legion," said Leslie King.

Pedro lived in Endicott.  His funeral will be held Thursday morning at 10 at Saint Patrick's Church in Owego.
