Late lead collapses in frustrating BU loss

VESTAL, N.Y.  Sabre Proctor scored a game-high 18 points and grabbed eight rebounds as Stony Brook (11-5, 2-1 AE) rallied for a 48-45 win over Binghamton (4-13, 1-3 AE) in an America East womens basketball game on Tuesday night at the Events Center. The loss was the second straight home setback for the Bearcats.
The Seawolves trailed 37-28 with 8:20 left in regulation but went on a 16-6 run to take a 44-43 lead with 1:06 left to play. Miranda Jenkins punctuated the run with a three-point play.

Junior forward Sherae Swinson put the Bearcats up 45-44 when she hit a layup with 52 seconds remaining but Jenkins struck again, draining a jumper with 34 seconds on the clock.

Chikilra Goodman sank a pair of free throws to put the Seawolves up 48-45 with 17 seconds left. The Bearcats then missed a pair of three-point field goal attempts in the final possession of the game.

Obviously, this is a tough loss, head coach Nicole Scholl said. Stony Brook went on that run late in the game and we werent able to answer. I thought we played well for a good part of the second half but we are disappointed.

Binghamton had trailed 18-10 with six minutes left in the first half but trimmed the deficit to 20-17 at the break. The Bearcats then went on a 13-4 run in a span of 7:41 to take that 37-28 advantage.
Senior forward Julia Barac scored a team-high 10 points while senior forward Vaneeshia Paulk and junior forward Sherae Swinson each added nine points. Senior forward Stephanie Jensen, meanwhile, tied a career-high with six assists.

Binghamton hosts defending conference champion Albany on Monday at 7 p.m.
