Anti-Frackers send Cuomo message at State of State

Governor Cuomo did not mention the word "fracking" in his State of the State Address today but over 2,000 anti-fracking protesters were happy to give their take on the drilling process.

The activists crowded the area leading to the governor's speech.  Organizers say the crowd was about double the number of protesters that were there last year.  Many were calling not only for Cuomo to keep fracking out of New York, but also for a comprehensive health review of fracking.

"We can't let it happen in New York state. It should never happen until a comprehensive health care study is done to find out the actual impacts of this industry," said former Binghamton Mayor Matt Ryan.

"If we could see a comprehensive health impact assessment come out of this year, that would be awesome. It's going to be tough to say. We just have to keep the pressure on Governor Cuomo. It's his decision," said Isaac Silberman-Gorn, Citizen Action.

Pro-frackers had little to no presence at the State of the State Address Wednesday.  Dan Fitzsimmons, President of the Join Landowners Coalition of New York, said before the speech that his members were staying away from Albany.  Instead, his group's focus this year is going to be at the ballot box and potentially the courts.  A state energy plan just released by New York emphasizes renewable sources but makes no mention of fracking.
