Is losing weight one of your New Year's resolutions? You're not alone. But, experts say, there are things you should and should not do in order to reach your goal.
First, you need to decide what your major goal is. Then make smaller realistic reasonable goals. This will help you from feeling overwhelmed and help you track your progress.
"Let's say overall they want to lose 20 pounds but then breaking it down into smaller goals. You can say, 'OK, I'm going to cut back on sugary beverages, I'm going to substitute water for sugary beverages. Or, I'm going to try to incorporate fruits and vegetables into all my meals or cook more meals with my family," said Ana Yaman, a registered dietician at Lourdes Hospital.
Yaman says to avoid fad crash diets. She says often they promote extreme eating behaviors and restrictions that are hard to maintain.
