Endicott Bomb Squad Grant
12/30/2013 (Updated 10:27:59 PM)A local law enforcement agency is receiving a grant to upgrade some of their equipment.
The Village of Endicott's EBI accredited bomb squad responds to suspected explosive devices as well as disposal of old ammunition. the bomb squad covers seven counties in New York State. The over one hundred thousand dollar grant will help upgrade their equipment, maintain current equipment, and provide further homeland security training.
"It's great because it provides us an opportunity to get the best equipment, the current equipment that's on the market to make our responses more efficient," said Lt. Charles Smales of the Endicott Police Department.
Some money from the grant will go toward providing a new containment vessel for the squad. The vessel contains the blast from an explosive device. And the upgraded version will use new robotic technology.
