Trees for Our Heroes

Three local organizations came together Saturday to help provide a holiday celebration for local men and women serving in the military.

Military families came together at the West End Avenue Armory. There they celebrated its annual Family Day.

It's the second year The United Service Organizations, BAE Systems of Endicott, and the Red Cross joined together to help the families.

Christmas trees were given away to 100 of the families. They also received a gift card to Target for decorations.

The day was a  thank you from the whole community to those who serve.

"It takes a little bit off their plate. Not having to worry about that. And just mainly knowing that the community is there for us, for them. It's definitely the support of the community. Knowing that , hey, we get support by our community 100%," said Jobanka Juyne, Unit Administrator, 204th Infantry.

The families enjoyed refreshments. Children did arts and crafts. And everyone took a family holiday photo to bring home.
